Last Days of Summer

There is a sense of urgency at the beach.
Everyone soaking up every last minute of summer!

Last Days of Summer
16 x 20

I recently found this amazing watercolor in a book "The Arts of David Levine".
(Thanks to a recommendation from a follower!)
He is most well known for his social, political, and  literary caricatures
that appeared regularly in the New York Book Review
and The New York Times in the 60's and 70's.
However his paintings are just stunning!

This has inspired me to experiment with new compositions!

Life Guards

As a young girl, spending summers on Long Beach Island NJ,
I was always "in love" with the Life Guards.
Little did I know then, how serious and difficult that job is!
This one is for all the Life Guards who keep us safe
during these glorious beach days!

Painting From Photos - New Fall Class

I'll be teaching a new class this fall at
"Painting from Photos".
I'm working on some new and fun exercises to do!

Hat Ladies
8 x 10

Class description:
Can’t get outside to paint? Don’t have a model?
Learn how to take and use photos as a jumping off point for more expressive paintings!
Having an exciting image can be the first step to building a strong foundation for a painting.
Through demos, exercises and critiques,
we will explore ways to manipulate those photos
to use as simple reference material.
We will touch on ways to use computer aids,
such as Photoshop Elements, Value Viewer app and Brushes for I Pad.
The “One Hour Painting “ approach will be covered throughout
with an emphasis on loosing up!

Summer Stripes

There is still plenty of summer left
and the subject matter just keeps showing up!

"Summer Stripes"
11 x 14 oil

I had fun with all those colorful striped chairs
and played with the composition,
tilting the umbrella to bring you to the guy walking.

Note:
My post from yesterday didn't get emailed.
Does anyone know how to fix that?
I'm hoping it was a one time event.

Because I'm Happy!

I'm still coming down from an amazing wedding weekend,
with a heart so filled with happiness and love
 I could burst!
It was magical, from start to finish.

It rained today so I headed to the studio
for the first time in two weeks!

That is just the way I feel.

 Taking a complicated subject
and breaking it down in to simple shapes.
So fun!
