Change of Season

Every time the seasons change, life gets pretty hectic
and my painting time is limited.
(an adjustment after the long winter months of
uninterupted studio time!)

Another one for the "Hat Series"

"Spring Clean Up"
16 x 16 oil

I don't usually get much work done in the summer.
However this year,
I've committed to being in two shows
and I'm teaching a class.
That'll keep me busy.

Recognition

"Page's Hat"  (20x 16 oil)
was awarded the
Joanne F. Regan Award for Composition
at the North River Arts Festival of the Arts
this passed weekend.

I had told one of my friends that I
was working on a series of "people wearing hats"
and she sent me this image
of another one of our friends.....
so it's "a collaboration of friends" painting!

So grateful for all the wonderful people
who enrich my life so much.

Welcome Summer

When the California Poopies "pop"
I feel like summer is here!

Here are just a few of the paintings they've inspired.

"Poppies Have Popped"
10 x 10
SOLD

"Poppies in Studio"
10 x 10
SOLD

NOTE:
I've been working on a commission;
three small paintings of
Cape Cod subjects.
It's taken much more time than I thought.
(Will post them once they are approved. )

Procreate vs. Real painting

Thinking more about my "Hat" series,
 I worked on this idea
in Procreate today.

(A quick sketch over an image.)
I took out the buildings and signs behind her
and worked on linking some darks to lead the eye
up and around to the hat.

I started the actual painting today.
It's always a bit dissapointing that a "real" painting
just doesn't look as cool as a Procreate sketch.

Stay tuned.

Assignments

I love a challenge so taking on-line painting classes
with weekly assignments works well for me.
This week, we are talking about circulinear compositons
and ways to lead the eye around a painting.

This was part of a "celebration" series I did a few years ago.
Looking through my archives, I was surprised
that I am definately more drawn to rectilinear compositions!

Interesting.

Expressive Figure Class this summer

I'm excited to announce that I'll be teaching an
Expressive Figure Painting class
this summer at
North River Arts in Marshfield, MA

"Purple Dress"
20 x 16 acrylic

"GO FIGURE"
Expressive Approach to the Figure
With Nancy Colella
North River Arts Society
Tuesdays 9:30 - 12:30

June 12 , 19, 26
July 10, 17, 24

Let’s explore an expressive, non-traditional approach to painting the figure,
by experimenting with the abstract elements of shape, color, line and composition.
We will work from observation and our imagination.
Working from images, models or reproductions, we will experiment with
flattening shapes, using pattern and texture, and mark making.
The exercises will help students create more lively and expressive statements of the human form.
A basic understanding of drawing the figure would be helpful.
 Open to all mediums.
Limited to12 students.

NOTE:
Sign ups will open in a week or two.
